Men, Bring Life to Extraordinary, Outstanding, Uplifting, Family Traditions Symbolized by Your Family Name

Over the course of our lives there are many things we have choice over.  We can choose our friends, career path, where we want to live.  Live a life of self-determination.  In life there are some things for which we have very little control over, our skin color, facial features, height, stature.  Our parents through their biological creation give us their genes.  And these genes express themselves in a very random nature.  It is what it is.  Besides our genetic make-up, our parent(s) also give us something for which they have full control over.  That is our name.  What is a name.  It is a title.  A descriptor.  Something for which we grow into at the youngest of age.  We become attached to it.  It becomes attac...

Why Every Man Should Be Strong

By Brett on the Art of Manliness Website When I first started the Art of Manliness, I didn’t put too much stock in physical strength as an important component of manhood. Strength of character, sure, but physical strength was more of a secondary pursuit. Maybe it was because I started AoM partly to get away from the overdone fetishization of getting ripped that was (and is) promoted by other men’s magazines. Maybe it was because I wasn’t in shape myself at the time. (We often construct our definition of manhood in accordance with that which describes ourselves best, and I’m certainly not immune to this temptation!). I had played football in high school, but after going to college, my workouts became halfhearted and sporadic. This was especially true in law school — between trying to ...

Planning a wedding, a marriage and a life is not the Woman’s role or duty

In 75 days I am planning to see the most outstanding, most awesome, most wonderful, most amazing woman, my bride, my love, my sweetheart – Leah.  With a soft warm morning breeze, the sun rays glistening between the branches, the strings singing a melody of love, my bride will seem as if she is just gracefully floating down the aisle.   To join me at the alter.  For the two strands of life, our souls, to be uniquely joined like a rope.  Strong, unwavering, determined, bond of life.  April 14th, 2019, seems so far away …  but in the blink of an eye the day will be here.  I am so looking forward to exiting the vehicle of bachelorhood and enter into the ranks of the married.  In my profession I have had the distinct fortune to meet thousand...

The Value of Good Fathers and Parenting

@repmialove and @realcandaceowens on the VALUES, FATHERS and good parenting. Both women are who they are because of the presence in their childhood of MEN (fathers and grandfathers) who had character, believed in family and good work ethic. Mia Love's parents came to the US with $10 and put three children through college with no handouts. Candace Owen's granddad grew up sharecropping, like my own mother who is about the same age as Candace's granddad. Her granddad now owns the land he grew up on. The message both stories provide for us is the belief in SELF, God and family. Raising little girls, I am especially keen to ensure they have the mindset that will one day be attracted to GOOD men, to family men. In order for this is occur, they will ...
